The present study was undertaken to assess the nutritional status, socio-cultural practices and the level of stress during menstrual period among adolescent girls. The sample for the study comprised of 60 adolescent girls in the age group of 17-20 years. Simple random sampling by using lottery method was used for selection of the samples. Interview technique was used for collecting the 24 hr recall method regarding nutrient intake, semi-structured questionnaire to obtain information regarding dietary pattern, 5 point Likert scale for Socio-cultural practices and modified stress scale to assess the level of stress during menstrual period. The results revealed that study sample (78.3%) were undernourished and 65% of the samples had moderate menstrual problems. The highest percentage of the samples followed moderate level of cultural practices (55.5%) and suffered from stress (83.3%). All the samples reported that these cultural practices are followed without questioning and suffered from stress due to imposed cultural practices which hinders during studies. The results hold implications for professionals involved in improvement of adolescent reproductive health in particular. Keywords

Malnutrition is the most wide spread condition affecting the health of children. Scarcity of suitable food, lack of purchasing power of the family as well as traditional beliefs and taboos about what the baby should eat often lead to insufficient balanced diet, resulting in deficiency disorders and malnutrition. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that about 60% of all deaths, occurring among children aged less than five years in developing countries, could be attributed to malnutrition. PEM is also associated with a number of co-morbidities such as lower respiratory tract infections including tuberculosis, diarrhoea diseases, malaria and anaemia. Hence, the present study investigated about the prevalence of malnutrition among hospitalized children and it was found that 54.4% of the samples were suffering from Grade I malnutrition, 23.3% of samples were in Grade II malnutrition, and only 10% of the samples were suffering Grade III malnutrition. Of the total samples 12.2% of them belong to normal. Association between selected demographic variables with malnutrition was determined and it was found that only age and income of the family had the association with malnutrition at 0.05 level of significance. Keywords

Antioxidants are scavengers of free radicals. Free radicals are easily generated by exposure to environment and normal physiological reactions. Free radicals may causes cellular damage that may leads to many diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, cataract, aging, diabetic complications. Antioxidants had proven to reduce the risk of these many dreadful diseases. Nurses plays a major role in the health care delivery system, if nurses are having favorable attitude on significance of antioxidants they can educate the patient about foods rich in antioxidants. So, investigators assessed the attitude about significance of antioxidants among nurses and it was found that 70% of nurses had favorable attitude during their pretest. The attitude score was 26.88±12.84. After the power point presentation the score was 36.17±3.07. Investigators found that all nurses had favorable and most favorable attitude towards the significance of antioxidants and none of the nurses had unfavorable and most unfavorable attitude towards significance of antioxidants so the PowerPoint presentation (PPT) was effective.
