The classics are never outdated. They are the ‘game changer’ and never lose their sheen. One such book under review is “ The Machine that Changed the World”. The book was based on a $ 5 million project named International Motor Vehicle Programme(IMVP) at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The essence of the book lies in discovering “Lean production philosophies” used by Toyota of Japan, later known as “Toyota Production System (TPS)” worldwide. Prior to the publication of the book in 1990, two American companies –Ford and General Motors (GM), known for ‘mass production’, were far bigger in size than the Toyota car manufacturing co. of Japan. The book divided into ten chapters, specifically highlights ‘how humans work together to create value and how lean production revolutionized the global car wars’.
