Abstract

In Military forces there is a process of deployment of soldiers or military personnel. The soldiers are deployed very frequently in active field areas, high altitude areas and routine exercise that create a separation between the family and the military personnel. Separation could be longer as well as for short duration influencing them emotionally, psychologically and mentally leading to distress, anxiety, loneliness (Demers, 2009). These distressed psychological well-being creates negative impacts on the physical health. The present study was conducted among the spouses of deployed Indian Military personnel in Suratgarh, Rajasthan. Total sample size comprised of 150 subjects. Psychological well being was assessed using Psychological well-being scale by Sisodia and Chaudhary and Physical health was assessed using Health cards provided by military hospital and by using self developed physical health scale. The paper unleashes the impact created by psychological well-being on physical health of the spouses of deployed soldiers' wives. The results revealed overall psychological well-being, efficiency and mental health are positively and significantly correlated with overall physical health of the subjects.

Abstract

The present paper on “Emotional Autonomy as Risk or Protective Factor towards Social Adjustment of Adolescents” tries to investigate the contribution of emotional autonomy towards social adjustment of adolescents. The research was conducted on 240 adolescents (120 males & 120 females) belonging to two parent intact families. The Emotional Autonomy Scale by Steinberg and Silverberg (1986) was used to assess emotional autonomy among adolescents Social Adjustment Inventory by Deva (1990) was used for the assessment of social adjustment among adolescents. Males were found to be significantly more emotional autonomous as compared to their female counterparts. Males highly perceived their parents as people, de-idealized from their parents at lower level, were more emotionally independent and were highly individualized as compared to their female counterparts. Males were socially well adjusted and significantly more mature than females. As per the results emotional autonomy acted as a protective factor towards social adjustment of adolescents irrespective of gender. However its contribution towards social adjustment was significantly greater in males as compared to females.

Abstract

India, like many other countries, is facing a range of health issues and challenges such as breast cancer, reproductive health issues, and mental health issues, chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension and CVDs. These issues are being dealt by the government and policy makers however people must know how to address their issues related to overall well-being at individual level as well. One such approach is mindfulness, which if adopted as a part of lifestyle would help in approaching sustainable well-being among people. Researchers describe Mindfulness as a term that indicate the basic ability of human being to experience the present, be present in the moment and being aware of where we are and what we're doinga. Mindfulness is connected to positive outcomes related to mental health and well-being. The present paper discuss about two scientific and well researched mindfulness based therapies, i.e., Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) that involves mindfulness as a base combined with other scientific therapiesas an intervention package for the treatment to many psychopathological and physical health conditions. The inverventions based on mindfulness can help patients to deal with their physical and mental sufferings in a no pharmacological way, that is indeed a suatainable way of treating any ailment.
