Objectives: This study is designed to find out whether strength training can normalize the tone in spastic upper extremity muscles and improve the strength of the spastic upper extremity muscles.Materials and Method: The study was conducted on 30 subjects with elbow flexors spasticity and were divided into experimental and control groups. Both the groups received conventional physiotherapy and Experimental group received strength training in addition. The parameters like strength and spasticity were measured isokinetically.
Result: The strength training program had no statistical significant effect on tone of the spastic elbow flexors between the two groups. t value 0.48 at p value 0.636(not significant) There is a statistically significant difference between two groups in the strength with the improvement in the experimental group. t value 6.03 at p value
Conclusion: This study concludes that strengthening program has minimal effect on spasticity & effective in improving the strength without deleterious effect on spasticity.

Objectives of the Study: The objective of the study is to know the effect of Muscle Energy Technique on pain and range of motion on OA knee.Methodology: 30 subjects fulfilled the selection criteria and were selected randomly from Department of physiotherapy, SVIMS, BIRRD, Tirupati. The study conducted for a period of 6 weeks. Two groups comprising of 15 members each were formed. Conventional therapy was given to group I and METS was given to group II. Subjects were evaluated pre and post treatment for VAS and ROM.
Results: To test the significance of the mean difference between the two groups, unpaired t test was done. It is statistically shown that there is some significant impact in the parameters VAS and ROM. The results showed that, experimental group had more significant improvement in all parameters than control group.
Conclusion: Upon analyzing the differences between both the groups further, it was found that experimental group has shown significant improvement when compared to the control group. Hence MET plays an important role on decreasing pain and increasing ROM in OA.

Introduction: Stroke is leading cause of major disability with significant muscle weakness and balance. Although most motor and functional recovery occurs in the first 3 months after stroke, evidence tells us that lack of strength and balance are hindering the functional performance of stroke.AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of isokinetic strength training and balance exercises on lower limb muscles with subjects with stroke.
Objectives:
1. To evaluate the efficacy of isokinetic strength training through isokinetc device in subjects with stroke.
2. To evaluate the efficacy of balance exercises through berg balance scale in subjects with stroke.
Methodology: 40 stroke subjects were divided into two groups, Experimental group received Isokinetic strength training and balance exercises (n=20) and Control group received conventional physiotherapy.
Research Design: Prospective randomized experimental control study.
Setting: College of Physiotherapy, svims, Tirupati, A.P, India
Sampling Method: Simple Random sampling
Sample Size: 40 subjects divided into two groups.
Inclusion Criteria:
• Age: 40-60 years.
• Gender: both male and female.
• Side: Both right and left hemiplegics.
• Subjects with first time onset of stroke.
• Subjects with Modified Ashworth scale of 1+, 2.
Exclusion Criteria:
• Subjects with hemianopsia.
• Contractures in lower limb.
• Any cognitive or sensory deficits are stroke patients.
• Other neurological and musculoskeletal conditions.
• People with cardiovascular diseases.
• Recurrent stroke.
• Participants who cannot comprehend and obey verbal commands.
Intervention: Subjects who fulfilled inclusion criteria are randomly selected into 2 groups and each group has 20 subjects.
GROUP I: (The experimental group underwent Isokinetic strengthening and balance exercises) A 6 week program which includes 5 min warm-up on stationary bicycle at low resistance followed by 65seconds stretches for hamstrings and quadriceps group of muscles on effected side. Strength training with knee extensors on isokinetic machine. 3 Sets of 6 to 8 repetition of maximum efforts followed by cool down section of 5 min of cycling, followed by balance exercises they are as follows:
The Balance Exercises Include Static Balance Exercises:
I Sitting Balance
II Standing Balance
Dynamic Balance
GROUP II: (The control group underwent conventional training)
Conventional Physiotherapy Treatment: A 6 weeks program which includes Active exercises for all groups of muscles in lower limb on effected side, Pelvic bridging followed by Modified pelvic bridging, resistance exercises for all group of muscles in lower limb with one kg weight cuff and manual resistance, weight bearing exercise in quadripod position, kneeling, half kneeling, standing, standing with single limb support, manual perturbations with wider base of support in forward, backward, sideways and finally progressing manual perturbations to narrow base of support.
Outcome Scale: Isokinetic device to measure peak torque of knee extensors on paretic leg. Berg balance scale to measure balance.
Statistical Analysis: Paired T-test has been carried out to observe the treatment impact between the groups before and after the treatment.
Results: After a 6 week treatment period, the subjects in the Group I (strength training and balance exercise) compared with the subjects in the Group II (conventional physiotherapy) had shown a statistically significant improvement with the outcome measures at 0.05 level.
Conclusion: Isokinetic strength training and balance exercise was found much effective in improving strength of quadriceps lower limb and balance in subjects with stroke.

Objective of the Study:• To evaluate the effect of low frequency vibratory stimulation on biceps brachii spasticity in subjects with hemiplegia through Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS).
• To evaluate the effect of low frequency vibratory stimulation on biceps brachii spasticity in subjects with hemiplegia through Passive elbow extension Range of Motion (PROM).
Materialsandmethod: 30 hemiplegic subjects were divided into two groups, experimental group received Vibration treatment in addition to the daily sessions of conventional physiotherapy which includes weight bearing exercises of upper limb, stretching of biceps brachii muscle and cryotherapy,where as control group received only daily sessions of conventional physiotherapy treatment for a duration of 30-45 minutes, six days per week for a total of 4 weeks.
Results: After a 4 week treatment period, the subjects in the experimental group compared with the subjects in the control group had shown a statistically significant improvement with outcome measures at 0.05 level.
Conclusion: Vibratory stimulation along with conventional physiotherapy was found much effective in reducing biceps brachii spasticity in the subjects with hemiplegia

Objective of The Study: To compare the effect of floor exercises and Swiss ball exercises on pain, lumbar flexibility and torque of spinal flexors and extensors in subjects with mechanical low back pain.
Methodology: Subjects were collected from the outpatient physiotherapy department of BIRRD, SVIMS, and TIRUPATI. Two way experimental study design with convenience sampling of 30 subjects for duration of five weeks.
Results: After a 5 week treatment period, the subjects in group I and group II had shown improvement with the outcome measures; but on comparing group I with group II, group II had shown a statistically significant improvement at 0.05 level with the outcome measures.
Conclusion: This study shows that there is a significant improvement of torque of spinal flexors and extensors, lumbar flexibility and pain reduction with both floor exercises and Swiss ball exercises. The findings of present study suggest that there is a significant difference between floor exercises and Swiss ball exercises.

Objectives of The Study
1. To know the efficacy of Epley's maneuver in improving the QOL in subjects with PC-BPPV using DHI and VADL. 2. To know the efficacy of Semont maneuver in improving the QOL in subjects with PC-BPPV using DHI and VADL. 3. To know the efficacy of Epley's maneuver over Semont maneuver.
Methodology: 50 subjects with BPPV were randomly divided into two groups, group I received Epley's maneuver (n=25), and group II received Semont maneuver (n=25). Both maneuvers were given therapy with respective procedure for three repetitions per session, one session per day and were given for 5 days in a week for 3 weeks. The questionnaire of DHI and VADL were evaluated on day 1, day7and day21 in both the groups.
Results: After 3 weeks of treatment period, the subjects in group I [Epley's maneuver] had shown statistically significant improvement with the outcome measures at 2.18 F-table value compared with subjects in group II [Semont maneuver].
Conclusion: Epley's maneuver was found to be much effective in improving the quality of life in subjects with PC_BPPV than Semont maneuver.

Introduction
The post mitral valve replacement presents with many complications related to the thrombosis, left ventricular and pulmonary dysfunction.
Aim
To observe the physiological outcomes after Phase 1cardiac rehabilitation in mitral valve replacement individuals.
Need of the Study
The review of physiological outcome measure is essential apart from physical outcome measures to prescribe systemic exercises in phase 2.
Objective of the Study
To study the hemodynamic changes (PT, APTT), physiological changes (paO2, PaCO2, pH), cardiac function (ejection fraction), exercise capacities, before surgery and after phase 1 cardiac rehabilitation in mitral valve replacement individuals.
Methods and Methodology
All the eligible patients were assessed for the PT, APTT, paO2, PaCO2, pH, ejection fraction, and VO2 peak pre operatively and at the time of discharge post- operatively after phase 1 cardiac rehabilitation.
Statistical Analysis
Paired samples t-test has been carried out to observe the response in pre and post values of cardiac rehabilitation.
Results
The results showed that there is no significance in the APTT after phase 1cardiac rehabilitation. The other parameters showed significant difference after phase1 cardiac rehabilitation.
Conclusion
There are significant changes in the physiological outcome measures after phase 1 cardiac rehabilitation in mitral valve replacement individuals and can be used as baseline values to prescribe exercises.

Aim
To find out the effect of peripheral muscle strength training on exercise capacity in subjects with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Need of the Study
Review of literature has shown that the COPD patients have reduced exercise capacity due to deconditioning from disuse of peripheral muscle. It is required to know whether strength training with structured exercise protocol is effective in COPD. The structured exercise protocol is to be implemented to upgrade the strength in a systemic way and to correlate this with quality of life (QOL). Hence the need of the study is to find out the effect of structured strength training protocol on QOL in COPD patients.
Objectives of the Study
• To find out the relationship between peripheral muscle strength and VO2 peak. • To find out the relationship between peripheral muscle strength and 6 minute walk distance (6 MWD) • To find out the relationship between peripheral muscle strength and quality of life.
Setting
Tertiary setting hospital, SVIMS, Tirupati.
Subjects
30 subjects who met the inclusive criteria with age of 40- 65 years and who perceived the Borg scale dyspnoea grade <5 were selected for this study and were allocated into control and experimental groups.
Method
Functional capacity was measured by six minute walk distance (6MWD), VO2 peak was measured by bicycle ergo meter and quality of life (QOL) was measured by SF- 36(Telugu version) questionnaire. They were administered on first day and again after four weeks. The data was analyzed within the groups and between the groups and results were made.
Results
6MWD, VO2 peak and QOL were significantly increased in both groups after rehabilitation. Conclusion Due to the peripheral muscle strength training there is significant change in 6MWD, VO2 peak and QOL between control and experimental groups. This study shows that there is an improved exercise capacity in COPD due to peripheral muscle strength training.

Exercise intolerance and Impaired quality of life is the long existing problem in Adult congenital heart disease individuals. Regular physical activities improves the physical capacity of an individual., influence on exercise tolerance and quality of life need to be studied. The aim of the study is to find out the influence of graded aerobic exercise on post surgical adult acyanotic congenital heart disases.
Materials and Methodology111 samples were randomly selected from a tertiary care centre SVIMS, Tirupathi, AP and allotted into control and study groups. The outcomes measures in the study were BMI (kg/ m2),Ejection fraction (%),Nitric oxide (mmol/L), VO2 peak (ml/ kg/min) and Quality of life (score).BMI was recorded using Quetelet index, Ejection fraction through echo, Nitric oxide analysis by Griess method , Bicycle ergometer to measure the ventilatory oxygen peak uptake (VO2 peak) and self assessed health related quality of life questionnaire SF-36 form to assess health related quality of life. The above values were recorded before surgery and 12 weeks after surgery. Graded aerobic exercises were implemented from the day 1 after surgery to 12 weeks to study group. Un graded aerobic exercises were implemented from the day 1 after surgery to 12 weeks to control group.
Results and Statistical AnalysisPower of the study is 90%. Paired t-test is used to compare mean values between pre and post tests of each parameter and t test is used to find out the mean percentage change in the parameters. The mean difference of pre and post intervention values of all outcomes between study and control group were found to be significant at p value<0.001
ConclusionImplementation of graded aerobic exercises in post surgical adult acyanotic congenital heart disease individuals has improved exercise tolerance and quality of life.
