Background: Low back pain among the athletes is common and can be extremely challenging for athletic trainer and health professional to assess, treat and rehabilitate. In low back pain, there is prominent loss in endurance occurs. Core strengthening will be effective in increasing endurance thus decreases pain and disability.

Objective: To examine the effects of core strengthening in recreational weight lifters with low back pain.

Methods: This 6 week study was conducted on 30 patients with low back pain. These subjects were divided into two groups with 15 subjects in each group. One group received extension exercises, other group received core strengthening with extension exercises.

Result: Statistically significant improvement were observed post exercise in both group for VAS and oswestery disability index .The inter group analysis revealed greater significant reduction in VAS , Disability index who were given core strengthening and extension exercises.

Conclusion: core strengthening training found to be effective in reducing pain and disability with a 6 weeks intervention.
