Academic libraries in this knowledge and technology driven society continue to dominate in providing access to information to their clientele like students, scholars, academicians, and other information seekers. Presently, their role becomes critical as they act as a catalyst and connector by linking students, scholars, and information together for generating new insights into teaching and learning. Academic libraries can play effective role in delivering their services, provided a positive culture is created and promoted for library staff. It calls for the role of university librarians to focus on developing healthy culture in libraries through delivering sound leadership practices which would eventually enhance library staff’s performance in serving their stakeholders better. Keeping the above facts in view, the present paper is aimed to examine the impact of leadership practices on organisational culture in select university libraries. The present study targeted 120 library staff from two universities in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K). Simple random sampling was used to gather information from respondents. Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ Form 5X) developed by (Bass & Avolio, 1995) was used to measure leadership practices, whereas OCTAPACE values were adapted from HRD Climate Survey developed by Rao and Abraham (1986) to study organisational culture. The reliability of constructs varied from 0.74 to 0.82 and from 0.71 to 0.85 in leadership practices and organisational culture, respectively. The data collected were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings of the study revealed that leadership practices significantly influence organisational culture in university libraries. On the basis of the findings, the study suggests that leadership practices prevailing in sample select libraries need to be more effective and result oriented which would develop sound and positive culture at their workplaces.Keywords

Universities are considered crucial in dissemination of knowledge and information and play a significant role in generation of human capital. Over the years, universities are forced to develop as centres of excellence while catering to the needs of its employees, students and society at large. A university can become a driving force provided it fulfils the aspirations of its stakeholders by adopting innovative techniques and strategies in its processes, structure and importantly in its academic and administrative functioning. It calls for continuous innovation and development in managing change and in facing complex nature of global academic environment. Keeping this in view, the present paper is an attempt to assess the employee perception towards organizational learning practices prevailing in sample select institution namely, the University of Kashmir. The present study targeted 100 teaching personnel from five faculties/schools of the university. Simple random sampling technique was adopted to gather information from the respondents. The data collected were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results of the study revealed that employees perceived a favourable attitude towards their organizational learning practices. The findings of the study also revealed that female teaching staff had shown more satisfaction level regarding organizational learning as compared to male teaching staff. On the basis of the research findings, it is stressed that learning organization practices prevailing in sample study institution need to be further enriched and improved, which would help in developing a sound and effective academic institution.Keywords

The present era of knowledge-based economy has posed immense challenge before organisations, particularly academic institutions, to identify the talent and potential of their human resource for developing them as knowledge workers. Keeping this in view, the present study is aimed to examine the perception of respondents towards HR practices prevailing in sample select institutions. The present study targeted 120 teaching personnel from five constituent colleges of Cluster University Srinagar. Simple random sampling technique was employed to gather information from the respondents. The data whatsoever collected were analysed using SPSS 20 version. The findings of the study depicted that respondents showed favourable satisfaction level towards HR practices. The findings of the study suggest that HR practices in sample institutions need to be further enriched and improved so that they will help in developing human capital which would eventually result in better institutional performance.Keywords
