The present study was undertaken to assess how perceived quality of home environment i.e. family relations, continuing parental conflict and family members associations with adolescents vary by gender and contribute in the development of social intelligence. For this purpose data was collected on a representative sample of 156 adolescents. Studying in class IX, X, XI and XII (78 males and 78 females) aged 14-17 years from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. After building rapport participants were requested to give response on Home Environment Inventory (HEI) developed by Misra (1983) and Social Intelligence Scale developed by Chadha and Ganesan's (1986) administered individually. The findings of study after applying multiple regression analysis (step-wise) revealed that gender as a factor associated with social intelligence operates differently in terms of home environment. Male adolescents perceive their home environment in more negative manner in terms of rejection, deprivation of privileges and punishment emerged as significant predictors for most of the dimensions of social intelligence. But in females most of the dimensions of home environment were positive in nature like protectiveness, reward, permissiveness and nurturance showed positive influence on social intelligence. Further findings indicated that confidence was the only dimension of social intelligence that emerges significant predictor for control in male group. In females in spite of having positive influence permissiveness also showed negative influence on patience and nurturance on sensitivity aspects of social intelligence. Finally females were found to be more outgoing and socially more socially more intelligent in comparison of male adolescents.- Role of Health Locus of Control in Determining Physical and Psychological Distress among Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients

The present investigation was done to study the effect of Health Locus of Control on Psychological and Physical distress among type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients. The sample consisted of 100 type 2 diabetic patients (50 males and 50 females) with a mean age of 56.44 years. The sample was taken from an endocrinology OPD of a government hospital. PGI Health Questionnaire N-1 by Verma, Wig and Pershad was used to evaluate the physical and psychological distress among diabetics, to assess health locus of control, 18 item Health Locus of Control scale developed by Wallston and Wallston was used. Multiple regression analysis was done to see the effect of Health Locus of Control on Physical and Psychological Distress among type 2 diabetics. Results showed that among the three dimensions of Health Locus of Control, Chance significantly predicted psychological distress and internal locus of control significantly predicted physical distress among type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Female diabetic patients scored significantly high on physical distress than their male counterparts.Keywords

Stress is a normal human experience and common among college students as they endeavor to adjust and adapt to multiple life experiences that become a routine part of their life. It is a normal reaction to challenging situations or an ambiguous environment, but becomes a problem when environmental demands exceed a person's adaptive capacity to cope, which becomes a threat to the well-being of a person. lt's also true that one cannot eliminate stress but it can be reduced in their life. The stressors are normative demands and critical life events include family and peer relationships, financial status, personal health, employment, career, educational plans, school grades, academic pressure, intrapersonal conflict, school environment, lack of social resources etc. These stressors are responsible for physical and psychological problems may leads to low level of mental health, self-esteem, self-concept etc. among college students, that may increases the likelihood of antisocial behaviour, rise in anxiety, drug abuse and even it may result to the extent of suicide. Consequently the present student's sources of stress scale developed in order to provide a comprehensive measurement of stress experienced by college students. Presentscale was developed through discussion with experts in the field also items related to these sources collected from available literature, books as well as different existing tests of stress. The scale consists of 87 items all were grouped under four types of stressors namely interpersonal stress, intrapersonal stress, academic stress and environmental stress experienced by college students. Reliability and validity of the scale was also found out.Keywords
