Theory of mind (TOM) refers to the capacity to infer one's own and other persons' mental states. Several studies provide convincing evidence of a specific deficit in the theory of mind (ToM) m patients with schizophrema. The present study attempts to access role of chronicity on Theory of mind in schizophrenia patients. Total 25 patients with ICD-10 DOR diagnosis of schizophrenia were selected as sample for the study from the inpatient department. Theory of Mind Task was used for exploring TOM in Schizophrenia patients. To study the variables independent samples test and chi-square (2) test were used. There was no significant correlation found between duration of illness and Theory of mind in schizophrenia patients. Duration of illness does not influence the theory of mind deficit in schizophrenia patients. This study adds to the growing literature on ToM by suggesting that theory of mind deficit might represent a trait rather than a state marker in schizophrenia. Keywords

This paper attempts to determine whether gender differences affects intelligence and academic performance among school going children. Total 100 children of both sexes between the age ranges of 7-15 years were selected. Intelligence assess by Malin's intelligence scale for Indian children and for academic performance academic records of children was taken from the school. Data was analysed using of descriptive statistics, chi square test and person correlation. Results showed that there is no influence of intelligence and academic performance on gender. Keywords

Patients with schizophrenia perform poorly on various cognitive functions tasks. Of late, there is surge in interest in determining the endophenotypic value of cognitive functions in schizophrenia. The present study was conducted aiming to understand the status and endophenotypic value of working memory and verbal memory in schizophrenia. Fifteen schizophrenia patients, their healthy siblings (N=15) and healthy controls (N=15) participated in the study. Patients performed significantly poorer than the healthy controls. Siblings of patients with schizophrenia also performed poorly than the healthy controls. Findings have been discussed in the light of endophenotypic value of verbal memory and working memory in schizophrenia. Keywords

This paper attempts to determine whether sociodemographic variables like residence, socioeconomic status, education, occupation and so on, have an impact on measures of executive functioning in the first degree relatives of those with Bipolar Disorder. 30 unaffected first degree relatives of patients with Bipolar Disorder of both sexes, between the ages of 14 and 50 years were selected. Executive functioning was assessed using the BADS battery which consisted of the Rule Shift Cards (RS), Action Programme (AP), Key Search (KS), Temporal Judgement (TJ), Zoo Map (ZM), Modified Six Elements (MSET); and the Dysexecutive Questionnaire (DEX). Data was analysed using descriptive statistics, Point Biserial and Pearson correlation. Results showed that age, education and residence did have an impact on certain subtests of this battery. While Age was positively related to TJTotal profile scores, Education was positively correlated with MSET Total profile scores and Residence was directly related to Total profile scores of Key Search subtest. Keywords

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a common, heritable and disabling neuropsychiatric disorder.Evidence from cognitive and neuro imaging studies (functional and structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET)) have generally been taken to be supportive of these theoretical models; however, results from these studies have not been entirely congruent with each other. Attempts have been made to delineate genetic contributions in OCD with an ongoing search for neurocognitive end opheno types but have met with limited success. In this study, we attempted to study andcompare the attentional property of patient swith OCD, their first-degree relatives (FDRs) and healthy controls. A cross-sectional design study was carried out with eight patients (age 11-16 yrs.), their eight siblings andeight age matched healthy controls who were screen edusing GHQ-12. As part of this assessment, we administered Stroop Colour Word Test on affected children and adolescents with OCD, their non-affected siblings and normal control. SPSS version 20.0 was used for data analysis. The patients with OCD performed worse than their FDRs as well as from the normal control group on test assessing attention, (P > 0.01). Studyrevealed deficits in attention, and supported the involvement of responsibility of fronto-striatal loop in OCD. The present study reveals attention in OCD is impaired. Keywords
