Introduction: Risk scores for screening diabetes are devised for identifying individuals who are at the risk of developing diabetes in the general population. Aims/objectives: This study is done to identify the prevalence of undiagnosed diabetics and pre diabetes in the rural community by using two different Indian diabetic risk scores both devised by professors from Chennai. Material/methods: A diabetic screening camp was conducted by the Medicine Department after informing the public by the village health workers about the camp details. Details like Age, Family history, Physical activity and Measurements like height, weight and waist circumference of the participants were noted. Fasting blood sugar (by One Touch) and OGTT with 75 gm glucose after two hours for postprandial blood sugar was done. Results: 103 Patients were studied with Blood samples and among them 59 individuals presented with abnormal blood sugar (by using Indian Diabetic Risk Score-(IDRS) by Mohan et al., 2010) and 58 individuals identified by using another Diabetic Risk Score devised by A.Ramachandran (A.R) and 20 individuals had Diabetes Mellitus in each score. Conclusion: Both the Indian Diabetic Risk Scores are equally effective in estimating the Prevalence of Diabetes but the advantages of IDRS devised by V.Mohan are its simplicity, low cost, less time consuming and easily applicable for mass screening programs.Keywords
