The solution of the flow of an incompressible viscous fluid through a pipe of elliptic cross section under a constant pressure gradient is well known. The present paper is devoted to study the flow of an incompressible couple stress fluid through a straight elliptic pipe of uniform cross section. The flow is assumed to be generated by a constant pressure gradient. The axial velocity component is obtained in terms of Mathieu functions. An expression for the volume flow rate across the pipe is derived. It is numerically evaluated for diverse values of the couple stress parameter, geometric parameter and pressure gradient. The variation of the flux is displayed through graphs.References
