In WCDMA, effective utilization of OVSF codes has become an active area of research as the number of codes is very limited. Orthogonal variable spreading factor (OVSF) codes are widely used to provide variable data rates for supporting different bandwidth requirements in wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) systems. Many works in the literature have intensively investigated to find an optimal dynamic code assignment scheme for OVSF codes. In this study the algorithms or methods used for finding optimal solution for code allocation is surveyed. The problems and drawbacks of the existing code allocations techniques have been described. These papers also suggest a solution to overcome the drawbacks of the existing code allocation schemes.Keywords
