Complexation behaviour of the Schiff base ligand, 1-phenyl-2,3-dimethyl-4-(benzylamino)pyrazole-5-one with manganese metal ion has been studied. The Schiff base ligand, 1-phenyl-2,3-dimethyl-4-(benzylamino)pyrazol-5-one was synthesized by the condensation reaction of 4-aminoantipyrine and benzaldehyde. The ligand and complex were characterized based on their colour, melting point, solubility, infrared and mass spectral analyses. Spectroscopic analyses suggested the involvement of C=N, C=O and chloride ions in chelation. A tetrahedral geometry was suggested for the manganese complex.Keywords

The inhibitive effect of1-phenyl-2,3-dimethyl-4-(benzylamino) pyrazole-5-one (PD(B)PO) on zinc corrosion in 0.1 M hydrochloric acid solution was studied using gravimetric method. The influence of halides viz., KCl, KBr and KI on the corrosion inhibition of PD(B)PO were also investigated. Results show that PD(B)PO alone provided satisfactory inhibition on the corrosion of zinc and it was also found that the inhibition efficiency increased synergistically in the presence of halide ions. The synergistic effect of halide ions was found to follow the order: KI > KBr > KCl. The inhibitor reduced the corrosion rate through adsorption process and obeyed the Freundlich adsorption isotherm.Keywords

Schiff base ligands have structures which enable them to act as chelating agents. The formation of Mn(III) complex with 2z-2-benzylidenehydrazinecarbothioamide has been studied spectrophotometrically at an absorption maximum of 635 nm at different temperatures. The data show that Mn(III) and 2z-2-benzylidenehydrazinecarbothioamide combine in the molar ratio of 1:3. The stability constants of the complex were calculated to be 6.70 x 1014 , 5.60 x1014 and 1.16 x 1014, 4.30 x 1014 by continuous variation method and mole ratio method at 25°C and 40°C respectively. The immediately formed complex shows stability with respect to temperature.
