Abstract
Understanding the society of India in all its complexities not only needs better measurements which can evaluate it but also an eye for linking details provided by societal parameters in order to obtain a realistic picture. Judging the position of a society, in terms of its socio-economic parameters no doubt provides a statistics based viewpoint but it becomes imperative to understand as to which socio-economic parameter should be used in understanding a particular aspect of the society, as in the case of this paper, understanding the gender disparity at its most crude level.
