Abstract
The Silvanidae are a moderately large family of the section Clavicornia of the superfamily Cucujoidea of the suborder Polyphaga. The silvanids are usually small (1.3-4.5 mm.) and seldom large (11.5 mm.), often subdepressed and reddish-brown, and occasionally with dorsal spots. They are largely associated with litter or vegetation debris and a good number of species are subcorticolous by habit. The Silvanidae are diversely represented in the tropical and subtropical parts of the world than in the temperate zones.
