There is a need for a different mindset, fostering of transformational changes, cross-sectoral decisions, macro-economic policy, the sensitization of the common man to environmental concerns and realization of the potential economic value of the eco-system for the markets and their attendant implications. Given the humungous investment requirements in renewable energy (RE), attempts must be made to identify financing issues, viz., their higher capital-intensive nature with lower organization and management (O&M) cost, exposure limit of banks to sectors, inadequate sector-specific risks awareness among financial institutions, and solar project viability apprehensions. There has to be a renewed thrust on climate change to meet the challenges of today and the expectations of tomorrow. The paper highlights the need for perspicacity and places the inextricably linked issues of renewable energy, environmental pollution, eco-friendly strategy, inter-generational equity, and climate change in perspective. Its scope, coverage and impact also continued to evolve. Over time, community, however, expected from businesses an “obligatory” role through a “social compact.” Subsequently, sovereign states introduced laws, regulations, frameworks and provisions to mandate businesses responsibility in support of societal purposes and well-being covering a swathe of areas, among others, education, health, livelihoods, environment, air, water, biodiversity, green growth, and sustainable development.

The history of societal transformation has kept pace with changing paradigms and changes that shaped its relations both with the businesses, the state, and the civil society –independently and interdependently. These benign and sometimes adversarial relations between and among the stakeholders accelerated actions towards frameworks, treaties, and goals and came to redefine the future of human welfare that set-in motion a renewed focus on co-creation and collaboration.

Over the years, sustainability, in all of these, has remained a common strand and now discourse is more about collective and joint actions both within and beyond national boundaries to re-set the pathways of relocating new grounds for a just and a fair course of green growth. This would essentially determine societal progress led by business transformation in harmony with nature, consistent with new role that science, technology, and innovation would contribute to making development more people-centric in times ahead.
Pooran Chandra Pandey https://www.i-scholar.in/index.php/RPMNDIM/article/view/212122 Fri, 31 Dec 2021 00:00:00 +0000 Testing of Five Factor Asset Pricing Model in India and Thailand Stock Market https://www.i-scholar.in/index.php/RPMNDIM/article/view/212123 Asset pricing models have emerged as a widely discussed and most debatable topic in finance literature. It is unclear whether such models hold their applicability in the emerging economies. The current study empirically examines the performance of five-factor asset pricing model using the Fama-French methodology in India and Thailand stock markets. It takes into account 17 years’ data from both the stock markets and adopts a series of tests like factor spanning, GRS, multiple regression analysis to test the applicability of a model. The empirical results found the presence of a strong market, size, value, and investment effect in both the markets. However, profitability effect was found to be strong in the Indian stock market and weak in the Thailand stock market. The article further highlights the better explanatory power of five factor model in contrast to three factor model for Indian stock market. The results reveal weaker performance of the five-factor model in Thailand stock market. The study further gives a holistic view of the applicability of the asset pricing model in both these emerging nations. The findings will further help portfolio managers in evaluating the performance of the portfolios and determining the cost of equity in the overall cost of capital. It will also aid investors in their investment decision making by helping them identify the average stock return in different nations. This paper proposes an optimized model of a new healthier way to hospital administration– the unidirectional circular movement at hospitals for achieving effectual patient care. Primary data for the study was collected from doctors and postgraduate students through a structured questionnaire survey. Structural equation modelling was carried out to investigate the structural relationships among the observed and latent variables of the unidirectional circular movement inside hospital infrastructure. The proposed unidirectional movement in hospitals is likely to effectively avoid face-to-face interactions to maintain social distancing, which is of utmost importance in our fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. The proposed method and the variables of hospital infrastructure will heighten service quality by eliminating the fear of disease spread and its related infections and hurry up the facility deliverance method, thus relieving the pressure of long waiting hours. The study aims to find out how people rely on Twitter as a trustworthy informational source. With social media being on such a rise in terms of popularity, this study aims to understand where Twitter stands amongst the other social media platforms. A survey of 500 people was conducted for this study. A set of questions was randomly circulated across social media platforms. The study was conducted in Delhi-NCR and included responses from people of diversified age, professional backgrounds, societies and opinions. The research in the said field started in 2007, after which substantial research was conducted on Twitter and its effectiveness as an information provider till around 2010. Although following that not much research has taken place. After an adequate hiatus, researches were resumed in 2015 and has been a matter of conversation till 2017. But studies conducted after that has been few. In conclusion, this study is to understand to what extent can Twitter be considered as a valid and trustworthy informational source. Information is of the primary essence in today’s world and social media, alongside newspapers and TV, has played a considerable part in providing the masses with information. Twitter being a humongous part of social media has turned out to be a primary source of providing information in today’s world. At the same time, the unpredictability of the consequences of human actions is also increasing exponentially. What seemed to be an efficient way to produce energy led to huge climate change. Moreover, a dogmatic belief in the innate efficiency of supply chains created inequality, fueled discontent, and triggered protectionist policies and populism. A new mindset is needed as we cannot solve these problems with the same attitudes that led to these. The compelling issues facing the planet need radical action. Governments, corporates and communities’ collaboration is imperative to reverse the damage. Business leaders need to embrace the smart solutions as sources of competitive advantage and define new business models. Business models that are resource light and are focused more on consumer experience, and goes beyond stuff, will be successful, especially those which leverage technology, power of human creativity, diverse teams, shared economy, nearness to the customers and are guided by circularity.
