Precision Engineering in Aerospace Applications

In the last few decades, the field of engineering manufacture has been greatly influenced with the application of two important concepts, namely, Computer Numerical Control and Precision Engineering. Precision Engineering has emerged as a result of synthesis of Metrology with Manufacturing processes. Application of Precision Engineering has led to the evolution of many high-tech products including Computers and their peripherals, Electro-optical systems, Biomedical devices and Consumer electronic products. It has benefited many fields and in particular in the development of Aircraft, Satellites and their Launching vehicles. The field of Precision Engineering is also being mutually benefited by these industries for its advancement. The paper explains the nature of the three branches of Precision Engineering namely, Precision engineering as applied to general engineering products, Microengineering, and Nanotechnology It also discusses the benefits and the host of products in Aerospace components and devices that have been realized with the application of Precision engineering. The various manufacturing processes that are linked with precision engineering are also mentioned.
