I consider myself to be amongst the fortunate engineers who had interacted with Dr. S M Patil. I joined CMTI at the age of 22 years, way back in 1972. CMTI owes its existence to the vision and zeal of Dr. S M Patil and his worthy contemporaries. Those were the days when India was not having any perceptible design and development strength in machine tools. CMTI was set up to fill the gap. It was named 'Central Machine Tool Institute'.
