In this investigation fretting wear test was carried out to study the coefficient of friction, fretting wear loss, specific wear rate and rise in temperature for E-glass woven fabric reinforced and random fiber reinforced glass (mat) epoxy composite laminates using SRV optimal test machine. The laminates were prepared by compression moulding method and fretting test was conducted with the parameters; stroke length (full oscillation width): 1 mm, frequency: 50Hz, fretting duration: 30 minutes and temperature: 32° C. The test was repeated for 40N, 50N and 60N load. The weight loss due to fretting wear, specific wear rate, coefficient of friction of E-glass woven fabric reinforced epoxy composite laminate and random fiber reinforced glass (mat) epoxy composite laminate were compared. The microscopic studies were taken for the worn surfaces at all loads and reported.
