E-Governance and its Future Prospectus in India

e-Governance is the application of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) in delivering the government services to the citizens. The methods and technologies used in egovernance acts as a road map for effective delivery of services at the doorstep and also is a significant step to raise the standard of living of the citizens of the country concerned.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to analyze the past performance, present stage and future prospectus of the e-Governance project in India. We would also like to throw some light to the opportunities and challenges to this plan.

Methodology/Procedure: It involved secondary data collection and analyses to determine the progress of the e-Governance plan in India.

Findings: The plan currently in its implementation stage. In various parts of the country many government services are already e-Governed, like for example: IRCTC services, Taxation, Disaster Management etc.

Conclusion: Although e-Governance is very popular in western countries but in India it is still an emerging technology. India needs to tackle a lot of challenges on its way to become a fully e-Governed country. It has a great potential and abundant labor force in addition to its efficient ICT, which if used properly will yield greater results.
