Abstract
It is apparent from the existing literature that there are many irregularities and inconsistencies in the nomenclature of fossil dicot woods. These are caused by such factors as disregard for the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature, insufficient knowledge of wood anatomy, poorly preserved material difference in the individual judgement of workers. It is, therefore, suggested that in order to bring uniformity in nomenclatural practices a common code should be agreed upon by all those engaged in the study of fossil woods.
