Abstract

A illustrated account of the pollen grains of 32 species of genus Clematis (Dill, ex) Linn., mostly Indian, has been presented and their systematic significance evaluated. The pollen is usually 3-zono-colpate, but some have 4-zono-colpate pollen as well. In C. cadmia Buch.- Ham. Ex Hk.f. & Thom., the pollen is panporate. The pollen features in Clematis exhibit a predominantly negatively reticulate sexine pattern and are of little phylogenetic significance.

Abstract

The paper reports epidermal structures including their appendages in thirty three species of jasminum. Various types of stomata including the abnormalities have been reported. Trichomes which are the characteristic of this genus have been observed in all the investigated species. Guticular striations and other important feature are also discussed in detail. Giant stomata and domatia are recorded for the first time in this genus. Species of Jasminum can be identified on the basis of epidermal features.

Abstract

The paper appraises the characteristics of leaf cuticle of 40 taxa of Clematis, representing 32 species. The cuticular features exhibit a reticulate pattern with little correlation with arrangement as projected by gross-morphological features. Nevertheless, these do provide characters of systematic value to be taken use of in distinguishing the various taxa.
