Role of Public Libraries in the Fulfillment of Academic Expectations : A Case Study of Taluka Libraries of Goa State

The present paper highlights the necessity of public libraries as a potential instrument for academic development. It also brings out the importance of public libraries as a knowledge centre. This paper highlighted the necessity of establishing the network of public libraries particularly taluka libraries in each and every taluka of Goa state in order to take knowledge to educate the community. This paper also reports the result of a study conducted in all the taluka libraries of Goa State to know the expectations of academicians with regards to the resources & facilities available with taluka libraries. It also provides suggestions to attract the academicians to the public libraries i;e Taluka libraries.
