The paper tracks down the formation of transnational identities in the novel. The Sandglass written by Sri Lankan diaspora writer Romesh Gunesekera. It is difficult for the immigrants to form a fixed identity because they keep straddling between two homes, two lives, two cultures and two identities. This contested life style makes them to understand the multi-layered conflicting situation and brings them to absorption, adaptation and assimilation leading into an open multiple routes to various cultural identities. Keywords
