Mapping Transnational Routes in Romesh Gunesekara’s The Sandglass

The paper tracks down the formation of transnational identities in the novel. The Sandglass written by Sri Lankan diaspora writer Romesh Gunesekera. It is difficult for the immigrants to form a fixed identity because they keep straddling between two homes, two lives, two cultures and two identities. This contested life style makes them to understand the multi-layered conflicting situation and brings them to absorption, adaptation and assimilation leading into an open multiple routes to various cultural identities.
