Abstract
This posthumously published book saddened me. It is full of promise. It shows Agrawal's native intelligence, his eagerness to read the classics in the original and his determination to acquire the skills demanded by the research in hand. And all this while working for the government notorious for its systemic failure to appreciate and reward talent! Agrawal's untimely death has deprived the government of India of much in-house research of high quality. Rashmi Agrawal's dispassionate preface highlighting the methodological and substantive contributions of this book brings out Agrawal's urge for perfection in whatever he set out to do.
