Abstract
We discuss here the probability of incumbent party's winning the election from the same constituency. We estimate the probability, of winning by the ruling party, irrespective of whether that party forms a coalition during election, has been a member of the last government in the centre. We estimate the average probability of winning in India's general elections from 1971 to 1999, under the given electoral system, using a panel data Binary Choice Model.
