We discuss here the probability of incumbent party's winning the election from the same constituency. We estimate the probability, of winning by the ruling party, irrespective of whether that party forms a coalition during election, has been a member of the last government in the centre. We estimate the average probability of winning in India's general elections from 1971 to 1999, under the given electoral system, using a panel data Binary Choice Model.
