DEF. An abstract set, L, is a partially ordered set, (or orderedset), if there is an associated binary relation " < ", (read "less than"), connecting some pairs of elements of L, which is further reflexive and transitive [that is : a < a for all a of L; and a < b, b < c imply a < c for all a, b, c from L].
