Abstract

It has been known for a long time that there is a close connection between semisimple algebras with involutions and the classical semisimple Lie groups and Lie algebras. But the precise degree of generality of this relationship does not seem to have been ascertained anywhere, at least explicitly, in the printed literature on this subject.
