Background: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is the most common complications of pregnancy that spreading throughout the world and in the past 20 years has increased in range from 10% to 100% among racial groups. GDM cause to maternal and fetal side effects, and in the absence of treatment, it can cause macrosomia, respiratory distress, hypoglycemia, hypocalcemia, and hyperbilirubinemia in newborns. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of GDM in pregnant women in Ardabil, Iran. Method: This retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted on 4485 pregnant women referred to Alavi hospital in Ardabil from April 2017 to December 2017. Data were extracted from hospital records and analyzed by statistical methods in SPSS version 16. Results: Of all Pregnant women, 256 (5.7%) had GDM. 91.7% of women with GDM had cesarean delivery which of them 75.5% were from urban and 73.2% were in the first parity. The mean age of women with cesarean delivery was 26.96 ± 6.38 years and normal delivery was 27.33 ± 6.44 years. Of women with GDM, 53% had primary education and most of them had no history of abortion and family history of diabetes. Conclusion:Considering the increased frequency of GDM in this study in compare with previous studies, the higher rate of cesarean section among young women with diabetes, doing more studies are essential in future.Keywords

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is a chronic bacterial disease caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis that appears in 85% of cases by pulmonary form. Epidemiologic study of disease during the time can have important rule for evaluation strategy of diseases control and trend of health indices. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the epidemiology of Tuberculosis in Ardabil province. Method: This descriptive cross-sectional retrospective study was conducted on 797 TB patients who referred to health centers in Ardabil province. Information was collected from patients’ records and then analyzed by statistical methods in SPSS version 19. Results: The average age of patients was 44.3±18.1 (1-91 years). 46% of patients were male and the rest were female. 83% of patients were living in urban and 18% in rural areas. The mean of total incidence of TB in Ardabil province during study years was 10.26 per 100000. From all TB cases, 56.71% was pulmonary and rest was extra-pulmonary. The most common organs involved in extra-pulmonary TB were lymph nodes with 24.21%. Conclusion: More considering to the early known of Pulmonary Tb and starting treatment after confirmation and also considering to the lower age of TB cases, aassessment the barriers to implementation of control, therapeutic and educational programs about TB cases is essential.Keywords

Introduction: Methylphenidate is a derivative of the amphetamines group, which is prescribed to improve efficacy, reduce sleep, develop euphoria and treat depression. It also serves as an enhancement of memory and facilitates learning by students during examinations. The aim of this study was to investigate the Methylphenidate consumption behaviors among students of Ardabil University of Medical Sciences, 2017.
Methods: This is a cross-sectional descriptive study that has been done on 150 university students who selected randomly from all medical fields. Data collected by a questionnaire included demographic data and questions about behavior and motivation of Methylphenidate abuse. Collected data analyzed by statistical methods in SPSS version 16.
Results: Of all students, 52.6% were female and rest of them was male with mean age of 22.2±6 years. Of all students, 38 (25.3%) had Methylphenidate abuse. Most and least abuse of Methylphenidate was among medicine and hygiene students with 30.4% and 5%, respectively. In terms of Methylphenidate consumers, impairment in thinking and memory with 81.6% and increasing the self confidence with 63.2% was the least and most motivation for Methylphenidate abuse. 65.8% of them, known the consumers as people with high self confidence and 39.5% known them inexpert people.
Conclusion: Results showed that Use of non-prescriptive stimulant drugs among students specially males were prevalent and is considered as a high-risk behavior that should be monitored and controlled in the future with the necessary planning.
