As a result of contribulion by leakage to a semi-confined aquifer when it is pumped, water levels decline in the source beds. In the phreatic aquifer, a sympathetic cone of depression is developed and its magnitude is determined by its specific yield and radius of influence of the leaky confined aquifer. Equations are presented for describing the drawdowns in the source bed and for determining its storage characteristics. These are illustrated with the results of a hydrological test conducted in the Sutlej basin.- Nature of Aquifers and their Inter-Relationship in a Part of Sutlej Basin, Punjab

Results of a detailed hydrological test conducted with arrays of observation wells have been utilized in deciphering inter-relationship between aquifers in the SutIej basin. Drawdown values obtained at various distances from the pumped well are interpreted, and it is shown that the aquifers below the first clay layer are under leaky confined condition.- Pegmatites: A Potential Source for Siting High Yielding Wells

Exploratory wells drilled in pegmatites in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu have recorded high yields. The median specific capacity value is 80 1/min-m. A commonly observed phenomenon is that discharge of a borewell increases immediately after striking pegmatites. The detailed, long duration pump tests conducted also indicate their sustained high performance. Keywords
