Abstract
Detailed geological mapping in the Drang area, Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh combined, with traverses and sub-surface exploration reveal that a horizon consisting of calcareous grit having quartz grains in a carbonate cement and recemented brecciated limestone lenses, is best exposed at Maseran Temple Hill underlying the lokhan lithounit of the Ropri Formation. It forms the oldest unit of the Shali Group, occurring in the basal part of the Ropri Formation and is named as the Maseran Member.
