Richter estimated from analyses of P arrival times on available seismograms that the epicentre of the 1905 Kangra earthquake lay on the border of Jammu-Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, approximately 100krn north of Kangra. This point lies far outside the limits of rupture deduced from analyses of macroseismic effects of the earthquake. We apply the concept of rupture propagation to suggest that the Kangra earthquake epicentre was in the southeastern part of the mcsoseismal area in the Chakraia-Mussoorie sector of the Lesser Himalaya near 31° N, 78° E.- Reservoir Induced Microearthquakes Around Tarbela Dam, Pakistan Himalaya
