Abstract
The term 'Supra-Barakar' refers to a great thickness of rocks of Rewa Gondwana Basin, which overlie the lower Gondwana formations with a pronounced erosional unconformity. Though conglomeratic sandstones dominate the lithology, the SupraBarakars of the area show much textural heterogeneity- The petrological investigations suggest that the rocks were deposited by high velocity, braided streams as alluvial-fan debris in a rapidly subsiding basin. The character of the deposit reflects the proximal southerly source of granites and pegmatites with high relief. The tectonics and climate were the casual factors. Attention is drawn to the possibility of active tectonism of the bordering Dharwarian in Triassic times.
