Abstract
The discovery of micro-organisms in a sparry magnesite, within carbonate rocks underlying the Main Central Thrust (M.C.T.) is related. The structural background of this part of the Lesser Himalayas is briefly described. First a mineralogical study of fossiliferous magnesite, then a description of the organisms found are given. A preliminary interpretation is proposed; the organisms are determined as paleobasidiospores, the age of which converge to the late Proterozoic and early Cambrian times. This datation is of great value for the structural interpretation of the area which had not the support of any paleontological arguments before.
