The results of geo-electrical investigations conducted over an area of roughly 50 square miles comprising the salt tracts near and around the city of Bharatpur in Rajasthan are presented. Resistivity determinations of well water were made in more than 600 wells located within this area and, in addition, a number of surface resistivity depth probes were conducted. These measurements, besides indicating the wells in which the brine, is of sufficiently high concentration as to render it suitable for salt manufacture, have enabled a rough delineation of the zones of maximum brine concentration. The resistivity depth probes have yielded useful information regarding the vertical extent of the saturation zones which would be helpful in assessing the brine resources available for the manufacture of salt in the area surveyed. Also, on the basis of chemical analyses of a number of brine samples from the wells, with concentrations varying between wide limits, a correlation graph has been prepared showing the relation between the electrical resistivity of the brine in the wells and brine concentration.- M.
