Cone in cone structures in Trichinopoly district are seen in the yellowish brown coloured marls which are found associated with the gypsum bearing clay beds of Uttattur Formations of Upper Cretaceous age. These are restricted to an area of about 65 sq. kilometers extending from Tappay in the south to Odiyam in the north. Field observation suggests that cone in cone bearing marls may have a lithological control over the distribution and concentration of gypsum in the Uttattur beds.- Computer Based Modelling and Geostatistical Methods in Mineral Exploration
