Abstract

The nonmarine sediments are characterised by dominating presence of kaolinite, while the marine sediments have differing clay mineral composition. The Intertrappeans are represented by Na⁺ moutmorillonites and the Raghavapurarn clays are characterised by a combination of kaolinite, illite and montmorillonite in decreasing order of abundance. These clays are believed to have been derived from different source rocks under varying climatic conditions.

Abstract

A fan-shaped paleodelta existed during Quaternary period with buildup of paleochannels along major lil1eament∼. This paleodelta region is characterised by thick fluviatile granular sediments, low electrical conductivity and chloride levels. Ground water flow paths, subsurface aquifer geometry and transmissivity trends for paleo Pennar delta region are presented and discussed.
