Abstract
Intensive search for vertebrate fossils in the Eocene Subathu Formation, Kalakot, Jammu and Kashmir has resulted in the recovery of one complete vomer, two splenials (one fairly complete and one fragmentary) and a number of isolated teeth of pycnodonts, a holostean group of fishes. The vomer is the first report of its kind from the Indian subcontinent. Based on dental morphology, size and length/width proportions of the teeth on individual tooth rows, the vomer and splenials are referred to two new species of Pycnodus: P. subathuensis and P. dattai, respectively.
