A New Species of Quaternary Hippopotamid from Bhima Valley, Karnataka

A nearly complete skull of a fossil hippopotamus collected from the Quaternary alluvial deposits in the Bhima valley in Karnataka, India, is described herein. Comparison with known Indian forms along with other species of this genus establishes that the present form is a hitherto unknown species, named as Hippopotamus deccaaensis Sp. Nov.
