The Permian coals of Ramagundam coalfield are sub-bituminous to high volatile bituminous in rank on the basis of chemical (carbon, and volatile matter) and petrographic (reflectance-Rom,) parameters. These coals are characterized as kerogen type-III. Reflectance (Rom) values suggest the maturation temperatures rapging from 46° and 108°C and depth of burial, of coal bearing horizons varies from 1725 to 2175 metres.
