The black bedded-chert at the base of the Lower Vindhyan succession in Chitrakut area, exposed at the southern face of Sangrampur Hill shows good preservation of microorganisms in the petrographic thin sections. The chert is not associated with stromatolites. Unusually large coccoid Trachysphaeridium sp. Timofeev and filamentous forms showing branching are recorded.
