A New Classification of Bauxite-Bearing Lateritic Plateaux

The paper presents a classfication of bauxite-bearing lateritic plateaux, on the basis of the author's experiences on laterites and lateritic bauxites in West Africa, Southeast Asia and Central America. The criteria of classification are, surface area of the plateau, shape or the plateau (both vertical and horizontal view), altitude, parent rock(s), index of dissectedness, morphology, and ore tonnage per unit area. The classification is computer-compatible and is recommended for practical investment decisions.
