New sulphur isotopic data for the stratiform barite and associated pyrites at Mangampeta indicate that the sulphur in the barite and pyrites was derived from sea water sulphate by bacteriogenic reduction. The barium may have come from volcanogenic or subrnarine-exhalative sources.
