As concrete is weak in tension, reinforced concrete begin to develop cracks even at ordinary working stresses when the tensile stress in steel is only 850 to 1250 kg/cm2 , These cracks are definitely minute and one school of thought does not attribute any harm to it. A 0.25 mm gap at least is required before the reinforcement will be corroded by moisture changes of weather, while the cracks developed at working stresses are only very small.- Equipment for Refuse Handling and Disposal-For CMD
