Abstract

From time immemorial, Man has remained in search of a peaceful shelter. The Earth-only a quarter of whose area is land'-has so far nested the entire humanity. But the population explosion that awaits at the doorstep would perhaps bewilder the entire system, with a bewitching smile. Thus a real problem has cropped up specially for developing nations in providing with a permanent mode of accommodation.

Abstract

As concrete is weak in tension, reinforced concrete begin to develop cracks even at ordinary working stresses when the tensile stress in steel is only 850 to 1250 kg/cm² , These cracks are definitely minute and one school of thought does not attribute any harm to it. A 0.25 mm gap at least is required before the reinforcement will be corroded by moisture changes of weather, while the cracks developed at working stresses are only very small.

Abstract

The technology of municipal refuse practice has undergone radical changes during the present era in the developed countries. The urge of living in a clean retreat, has forced the dwellers to find ways out, to avert this problem in an ingenious way. Calcutta, once the second largest city of the British Empire, has witnessed least activity, in this context, even after twenty five years of Independence. With the population explosion at the doorstep, the situation had been worsening fast and in a most fatal way. The severity of the problem, demands immediate attention and remedial measures need be undertaken without any delay.
