Abstract
To evaluate the performance of a human joint, normal or artificial, a knowledge of the conditions under which the joint works is necessary. For the case of an artificially replaced joint it is expedient to know the natural joint as the starting point. The kinematic and kinetic aspect related to the structure and function of the joints are of major importance along with the friction and lubrication depending on the joint surface material and fluid.
