Abstract
Lighting accounts for 17.5% of the total energy consumed in India as against 5% in developed countries. In recent years, electronic ballasts with fluorescent lamps and CFL lamps have attracted research interests because of considerable advantages if compared with the electromagnetic ballasts commonly in use. Due to ever-increasing requirement for power quality, international standard has been published and it provoked new research efforts worldwide.
