Abstract

The paper deals with design of pumps both for heavy-duty and medium-duty tubewell specially for minor irrigation in West Bengal. Standard design has so far been followed despite different geohydrological condition prevalent in different areas of West Bengal. Instead of designing pumps for each and every tubewell several zones are suggested to be determined depending on the influence of the local factors, viz. the state of water level, drawdown etc. etc. This is because of regular maintenance facilities and easy availability of spare parts for the machinery.

Abstract

In a fishing operation at a Borehole in Bankipur Drilling Camp at Malda (West Bengal), there were frequent failures of taps (a conventional tool for recovery of casings, rods etc.), which gave rise to the design and manufacture of a wedge type casing recovery tool. Though in a somewhat crude form in the beginning (the tool was fabricated in the camp), it successfully recovered 84 mm. casings. The design was further improved and the tool later put to general use in the drilling camps where such an emergency arose.
