Abstract
The rapid growth of population in India poses a challenging problem and apart from socio-economic measures our Government is now rightly concentrating more and more on the success of “Green Revolution” to feed the hungry millions. The agriculture in India mainly depends on the Weather God and unfortunately rainfall is not only seasonal, but also erratic in many parts of India. It is therefore imperative that our Government should give more stress on “tubewell irrigation” in order to make Indian agriculture less reliant on rainfall.
