The use of compost made out of city refuse as fertiliser is being discussed in this paper. Exclusive use of fertilisers alone will not ensure a bumper yield of crops, soil fertility is proportional to its humus content and organic constituents. The disposal if city refuse by sanitary means is a gigantic problem-the different methods of disposal viz. landfilling, incineration, dumping into sea, composting etc. are discussed.
